Here are some products I use daily and like. Each product got here via one of the two following processes:

  1. Lots of research. Buying it. Using it. Liking it.
  2. Some research. Buying several options. Trying them all. Settling on one. Using it. Liking it.

Software

Obsidian. Nice interface for writing locally hosted markdown notes.

Arc Browser. Chrome on steroids.

Raycast. Spotlight on steroids. Navigate your mac faster.

Cursor. VSCode on steroids.

Todoist. Powerful personal task management. Here is a blog post about my to-do system.

Instapaper. Read links later, and then catalogue them for future reference.

Remapped caps lock. Navigate your mac even faster.

Alt Tab. Windows style alt-tab for mac.

Bitwarden. Password manager.

Claude 4.5 Sonnet. Current preferred general purpose LLM.

Cronometer. Nutrition logging.

Airalo. Easy eSIM for travel.

Wispr Flow. Fantastic AI powered speech to text.

Superwhisper. Good AI powered speech to text. Use over Wispr Flow only if you care about local inference for privacy reasons.

Runna. Personalised running plans.

Office

Varier Plus. Nice chair if, like me, you can't sit still.

Mac Pro. Do I even need to justify this one?

MX Master 3S. Wireless mouse.

Keychron Q1 Max Mechanical Keyboard. Wireless mechanical keyboard. Solid build quality. Hotswappable switches.

Sony WH-1000XM6 Headphones. Wireless noise cancelling headphones.

Hollyland LARK M2S. Discrete wireless microphone (for AI voice to text in busy office environments).

CalDigit Element5 Thunderbolt Hub. Many peripherals with a single cable.

Sleep

Oura Ring Gen 3. Sleep tracking.

Loop Quiet 2. Reusable ear plugs.

Manta Sleep Mask. Darkness without the eye pressure.

Blue Light Blocking Glasses. Make the entire world red for a few hours before bed to promote melatonin production. Lower quality, cheaper, and more red alternative here. One advantage of the former over the latter is they offer prescription lenses. I use both.

Smart Coloured Light Bulbs. Buy many. Set up automations so you minimally have to manually control your lights. I recommend bright white lights during the day, and dim red lights a few hours before bed. Note I don't have strong takes on brand. I use the linked ones and they are fine, but more thought could be put into it.

Home

TaoTronics AP003 Air Purifier. The best affordable air purifier money... could buy in mid 2024. Unfortunately discontinued (so will be increasingly hard to find). Better air quality is the easiest way to not die.

Minirig 4. Extremely loud portable bluetooth speaker. Also with zero latency aux passthrough.

Google Nest Mini. A cheapish way to start voice controlling your home. Also a decent speaker.

Hooks. Things should have places. This reduces clutter and saves you time when finding things. Having that place be on your wall is an efficient use of space. I use these and this but the exact brand is not important.

Squatty Potty. Unkink your colon while you poop.

Doorframe Pullup Bar. Easy to remove, sturdy, doesn't damage your doorframe, and elevates the bar a bit.

Clothing

Runderwear Merino Wool Boxers. Extremely comfy underwear that doesn't budge.

Darn Tough 1466 Hiking Socks. Plush merino wool socks. Lifetime warranty.

Balega Running Socks. Supportive running socks. I like 3 styles: Blister Resist, Hidden Comfort and Enduro. Here is a neat table explaining the differences.

Uniqlo. Great default clothes shop.

Barefoot shoes. Some personal taste here, but I find them comfortable.

Primark Chunky Elastic Hair Ties. Cheap & strong hair ties. They do stretch out, but I tend to lose them around the time they get too loose. Buy several packs.

Misc

Garmin Forerunner 165 Music. Entry level running watch.

North Face Surge Backpack. Obscenely well thought through backpack.

Bellroy Card Sleeve. Minimalist wallet.

Hydroflask. Hydration. Get specifically this wide mouth 1L variant.

NiteIze S-biner. Carry more things.

CeraVe Cleanser. Skincare if you have an oily face.

Green Bell G-1305 Nail Cutter. Japanese made nail clippers.

Book Darts. Better bookmarks. If in the UK buy from here.

Not products

Duplicates of things you use often. Okay, not an item. But owning multiple of the same item means not having to remember to take things with you, e.g. from your home to your office.
